Advanced Renamer is, as the name would suggest, batch file renaming for macOS. Created specifically for macOS and designed from the ground up to offer ease of use, fast performance, flexibility and a feature set to meet the needs of absolutely anyone. From individual users, to corporate customers, Advanced Renamer can be as simple, or complex as you need it to be.
Fast performance. (No, really fast.)
Batch File Renaming for macOS can be a slow process, but no matter how many different Renaming Actions you add, Advanced Renamer will get the job done quick. As you can see in the video here, on my own M1 MacBook, renaming 6000 photos takes less than 1 second*. That’s why the clock is included in the video, to show there’s no editing, other than adding the titles.
*As you would expect, speed can vary depending on your computer, how fast its storage is, and so on. But renaming will always be performed as fast as the system allows in Advanced Renamer.
File split-view.
When you’re working with a folder which contains thousands of items, keeping track of the ones you have selected can be a chore. To help in such situations, Advanced Renamer includes a very handy split-screen option. Which allows you to view, and interact with, only those files you have selected, right at the bottom of the window.
Quick, easy to use actions.
Finding the kind of renaming action you want to use shouldn’t be complicated, Batch File Renaming for macOS can often lead to far too much head scratching. Advanced Renamer however, makes finding just what you’re looking for as easy as a couple of clicks from the Actions drop-down menu.
For example, to add some text to the start of a filename: click ‘Add New Action’, select ‘Add text at start’, enter the text you wish to add in the blank text box and click ‘Save’. That’s as simple as it can be. And while there are options for more complex operations, such as ‘Replace with RegEx’, even those are just as straightforward.
If you want to implement more advanced Renaming Actions, each Action you add can be set to work only on Audio, Video, Documents, Images, Folders, or a custom file type of your own choosing. Allowing for extremely flexible Action Sets.
Multi-step, reusable actions.
Each action you add in Advanced Renamer is added to your ‘Actions List’, this list of actions allows you to chain together multi-step renaming, re-arrange the actions, remove individual (or all) actions from the list, and edit each individual action – for when you’ve made that inevitable mistake, as we all do.
If you’re like me, and frequently use the same set of actions to rename different batches of files, over and over again. You can save any of your painstakingly created sets of actions to a file on your computer, which you can load in at any time, saving you from a lot of recurring setup. The action sets that you save can also be shared with anybody else who’s using Advanced Renamer on their own Mac.
Can you type faster than you can click?
The new Quick-Type Renaming Actions Bar allows you to add Renaming Actions, simply by typing what you want to happen.
Using simple, easy and quick to learn formatting, you’ll be typing up the most complex of renaming actions as fast as, well, as fast as you can type. Naturally, once they’re added to your Renaming Actions List, you can pause, move, duplicate, or delete them, just as you would with any other renaming action.
Along with the new Quick-Type bar, you can now save yourself even more time, by using the formatting you have quickly mastered in the Quick-Type bar (loosely inspired by the simple to master CSV style) and simply type out the list of renaming actions that you would like to perform in any text editor. Save it as a plain text file and you can then import that into Advanced Renamer and all of your renaming actions will be added.
Metadata by the dozen.
Advanced Renamer allows you to access any metadata your files may include, just as easily as with any other action performed in Advanced Renamer. The dozens of available metadata types enable you to simply add that hidden information for photos, MP3’s, videos and other documents and includes (among others):
ID3 Support for track number, album, title, artist, composer, file type, sample rate, bitrate, etc.
EXIF GPS, date, image size, hardware, lens, colour space, bit depth, colour profile, alpha channel, exposure mode, exposure time, exposure program, white balance, ISO speed, etc
MetaData made easy
Batch File Renaming for macOS tends to focus just on the renaming of files, but what happens when your audio files are missing metadata? It can be a real pain to sort out, especially if you’re anything like me and rip all of your vinyl to high-resolution audio files.
So there’s a couple of nice, new additions to help make your life easier. Firstly, the metadata editor has been revamped to be much easier to use. You can now also play your audio files, which can be handy in identifying them, to ensure you’re working on the correct file. Best of all, now, with nothing more than a title to work from, you can automatically search for track details and then, having selected the correct one from the list of returned search results, all of the available metadata will be filled in for you. it can be a huge time saver.
Mishtakes Mistakes, easily fixed.
No matter what we do in life, mistakes are easy to make. Which is why each and every action you add in any of your multi-step lists in Advanced Renamer, can be edited, or even changed for an entirely different kind of renaming action. Even if you accidentally save an action set with a mistake, you can edit it the next time you load it.
Has your renaming gone horribly wrong somehow? Perhaps you accidentally loaded in the wrong action set, or picked the wrong source directory, and renamed thousands of your carefully curated family photos. Disaster! Well, no, Advanced Renamer maintains a full undo and redo history, do you can easily step back and forth through them. Can’t remember where it all went wrong? By simply holding the Control (⌃) Key and clicking on a file in the list, you will get a pop-up with that files full renaming history, just click on the one you want to get back to, it’s as simple as that.
And as always, everything we implement is completely privacy-centric. The renaming history is not monitored, or saved. As soon as you remove a file from your list, or close the app, the history is gone.
And then there’s:
